Designs from Passion

I found wonderful little group of maple seeds in my driveway last week. Knowing that I was planning to do a maple seed quilt again, I brought them into the studio. The sketch below is my first trial at a design. I always sketch with pencil and a fat eraser at hand. I found the different sizes of the "wings" intriguing. I will probably change the color when I do the inking of the design.

Any suggestions for color? I am going to work on a salmon colored piece of hand dyed fabric.

  1. These little seeds seem to almost glow. Very wonderful. And it's great the way you've arranged them.
Will your piece have a vertical or horizontal orientation? What about the sprouty nubs on the largest stem - will you include those?

  2. Very nice. Salmon, maybe a turquoise? Maybe that is my favorite color coming to mind. You always do wonderful work so I know you don't need our input.

  3. Ohhhhhhh, I just saw your schedule for the Lewis Ginter exhibit. I live in Richmond, along with several others from QuiltArt. Please put this on the list to remind us.

  4. Thank you for the comments and for reading my blog. You can see what I did on the piece for SAQA in the most recent posting. It is actually square but did not fit on the scanner. I may do it again in turquoise, love the idea.
Lynda, thanks for the tip about posting on the list when the exhibit will be in Richmond. I am really looking forward to it. I love the Ginter. It is a really wonderful garden.
